The Call of the Wild was originally published in serial form in the Saturday Evening Post in 1903, which means that readers received only a few parts of the book at a time. It was published as a complete book later that year. The book tells the story of a dog named Buck who is taken from his owner in California to work as a sled dog in Canada during the Klondike Gold Rush. It shows Buck as he transforms from an easy-going pet to a tough, wild dog standing up for himself in a dangerous world. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
