Ernest Shackleton (1874–1922) was a British explorer famous for his journeys to Antarctica during a time when adventurers risked their lives to explore the frozen continent. Shackleton’s most well-known voyage was the British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, which set sail for Antarctica from England in August 1914. His ship, The Endurance, became lodged in pack ice along the way, leaving Shackleton and his crew stranded in an inhospitable environment at the mercy of nature. The story builds suspense as the situation grows worse over time. The men are able to rely on each other and their captain, but will it be enough to survive? These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
