This biography tells the life story of Helen Keller (1880–1968), a woman who was blind and deaf. She overcame these disabilities to become a world-renowned advocate for blind and deaf causes. The graphic novel starts her story from childhood, when she was afflicted by an illness that caused her to lose her sight and hearing. It traces her journey to adulthood, when she traveled the world giving speeches and meeting with world leaders. The story also introduces the reader to an influential person in Helen’s life, Anne Sullivan. This woman was a gifted teacher who taught Keller how to communicate. She went on to help her pupil for the rest of her life. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
