Jane Eyre tells the story of a young woman whose life is plagued by misfortune. It is notable for its use of first-person perspective, which invites the reader to hear the protagonist’s intimate thoughts and feelings as she confronts her extraordinary circumstances. In fact, its full title when it was first published was Jane Eyre: An Autobiography. The novel was controversial for its frank depictions of class, religion, and feminist sensibilities. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
