The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic gothic fiction tale. Features of the gothic fiction genre include a gloomy atmosphere, a focus on emotion, an exciting kind of terror, and, in Victorian gothic fiction, the feeling that things aren’t what they seem. Dr. Jekyll is a respected member of society, despite being a little unusual. Mr. Hyde is a cruel, mysterious man who is often present at the scene of a horrible crime. Something connects the two men, and it is up to the protagonist, Mr. Utterson, to solve the case. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
