The Lion’s Whisker is a folktale that originated in Africa. A folktale is a story that has been passed on from one generation to the next. Usually folktales are stories that are told out loud or are acted out in a performance. There are folktales found in almost every culture. Most have a moral or lesson to learn. In this story, two sisters have to live apart for the first time ever because they are both about to get married. They enlist the help of the village healer in the hope of strengthening their bond as sisters. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
