Born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869–1948), the man who would come to be known as Mahatma Gandhi lived an extraordinary life. This biography tells about his boyhood days in Porbandar, his time spent in London studying law, and the start of his activism in South Africa. It shows how he fought the “Black Act” of 1906 in South Africa, then returned home to India to fight for independence from the British Empire. It is an inspiring story about a man who started life as privileged and upper-class and became the beloved civil rights icon we still admire today. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
