The Count of Monte Cristo is a literary classic that was originally serialized in the popular newspaper Journal des Débats from 1844 to 1846. It is a historical novel, which means it is set in an actual period of history even though it is a fictional story. The main character of the story, Edmond Dantes, is betrayed by his friends after becoming captain of the ship Pharaon at a young age. Sentenced to life in prison, Edmond makes a daring escape. He then proceeds to find the “friends” who put him in jail to exact his revenge. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
