Classic Literature Graphic Novels
H. G. Wells
Publisher: Pubbly
Ages: 7-8

The Time Machine by H. G. Wells is a famous science-fiction novella, a short novel. It uses a frame narrative, a story that is used to set up the telling of another story. In this story a man travels to the future and returns to share startling details of his encounters. This story is well-known for popularizing the idea of time travel in fiction using a vehicle or device. Its vision of the future is a dystopia, meaning that the imagined world or society survives despite harsh conditions. The Time Machine also works as a fable with a moral, or lesson to be learned. The Time Traveller warns his listeners, as well as the reader, that the future could be bleak unless society makes efforts to change. These PUBBLYs have professionally produced audio and sound effects, as well as animated dialog boxes. The panels of the graphic novels are presented one or two sliding panels at a time so that readers can see and experience the story fully and to let the story unfold slowly over time. Teacher’s guides (downloadable PDFs) contain background information, vocabulary, comprehension questions, and discussion guides.
